A proud partner of Honoring a Life
Obituary for Eddie Lee Pruitt, Sr.

Deacon Eddie Lee Pruitt, Sr. (affectionately known to some family and friends as POP Pruitt and Deacon) began his eighty-nine years of life on November 7, 1929. He entered eternal rest on August 7, 2019. He was preceded in death by his parents: Emmitt and Zula Hunt Pruitt of Rossville, Tennessee; eleven siblings: Emmitt Jr., A.T., Robert, Cozell, Bertha Mae, Lizzie Ora, Bessie Marie, Ray Pruitt, Pearlie Mae, Lizzie Mae and Emmitt Maurice Pruitt; his former wife: Rosie Mae Pruitt; and five sons: Allen, Robert, Ronnie, Willie and Eddie Pruitt Jr.
He was a “Man of many trades” and mastered them all! His loyalty to service led him to serve one tour of duty in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. After returning home, he was employed with Mid-South Plumbing Company as a Plumber. Deacon performed his own Mechanic Services, at which time he also worked at Sarge Backhoe Company as a backhoe operator and Tri-State Plumbing. For the latter part of his career, he became the proprietor and operator of Pruitt’s Backhoe Services.
Deacon Eddie confessed a hope in Christ at the age of 15 under the leadership of Reverend A.Y. Crutcher at New Sardis M.B Church, where he served as a faithful member, Deacon, Land Excavator, and Builder. With love for community and people, he was like a second father to old and young. His contagious smile and joyous laughter will be greatly missed. The family takes comfort in knowing Deacon is no longer suffering and is at peace with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
He leaves to cherish his memories: his beloved wife Phyllis Pruitt, nine children; Bonniestine (Reverend Gerald) Rayborn, Reverend Rosie L. Flowers, Ernestine Pruitt (David) James, Mary A. Pruitt, Emmitt (Dorothy) Pruitt, Alvin Pruitt, Frankie Pruitt, Mark Pruitt, and Zola Marie Pruitt; two step-daughters; Sheritha Marshall, Azuree (Lewis) Christion; five sisters Geralene (Carl) Walton of Chicago, Jamie Mae Pruitt of Memphis, Bernice McCray of Collierville, Fannie (Melvin) Ewing and Rosemary Sullivan of Memphis. Two brothers James (Valeria) Prewitt, and Pastor Van (Rosie) Pruitt of Memphis; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and friends.
“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness…”
2 Timothy 4:7-8
