Obituary for Frederick J. Hunt, Sr.

Frederick (Fred) Jordan Hunt was born December 26, 1927, in Memphis, Tennessee. He was the youngest child of four siblings born into the union of Joseph Hunt and Jennifer Johnson Hunt.

Fred attended Hamilton High School and later became self-employed in landscaping. Fred met and married Margaret Smith on October 21, 1946. To this union, three children were born, Barbara Hunt-Watkins, Fred Hunt, and Vivian White.

Fred was baptized in 1960 at Mount Lebanon Baptist Church on Trigg Street under the leadership of Charles F. Williams and was ordained as a deacon. Fred later joined Cummings Street Missionary Baptist Church in the late 80;s under the leadership of Pastor Eugene Waller, where he continues to serve as a deacon as well as joining the Men's choir. Fred was a member of the prison ministry, nursing home ministry, and fed the homeless. In 2014 Fred became a member of Brown Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Bartholomew Orr, where he was an active member until his health failed.

Fred retired from his landscaping business after 60 plus years. He loved his family, but most of all, he loved the Lord. All who knew and loved him will truly miss him.

Proceeding his death was his devoted wife Margaret Smith-Hunt, loving parents, Joseph and Jennifer Hunt, and on sone Fred Hunt.

Fred departed this life on Monday, November 4th, at 4:15 am at Graceland Nursing Home. He leaves to cherish his precious memories: two daughters; Barbara Hunt-Watkins and Vivian White (Lee, Sr.), four grandchildren; Wendall Abbott (Gayla), Lee White, Jr. (Patricia), Karen Henry (Lloyd), Steven Hunt (Jennifer); four great-grandchildren, Victoria Henry, Lloyd Henry, Jr., Alyssa Hunt and Dominic Hunt; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
