Obituary for Joseph Clinton Kirk, Jr.

Joseph “Joe” Clinton Kirk, Jr. was born in Memphis, Tennessee on September 14, 1938, to the late Joseph Clinton Kirk, Sr. and Elizabeth Kirk Washington.

Joseph was a proud 1957 graduate of Manassas High School, where he firmly believed in the saying, “There are no limitations as to what can be accomplished by alert and willing hands.” Joseph remained an active Manassas Tiger, where he was later recognized for his outstanding service. After high school, Joseph joined the United States Navy.

On June 10, 1973, Joseph married Barbara Joyce McMoore in Memphis, Tennessee. They both accepted Christ and joined Olivet Baptist Church under the pastoral leadership of Kenneth T. Whalum Sr. He was a devoted member willing to go over and beyond for his church. Joseph served as Deacon Emeritus, Trustee, Shepherd of The Pearls Discovery Class, an active member of the PALMS ministry, a bus driver for church trips/outings and was a faithful financial contributor to the Church.

Joseph had an extreme passion for driving trucks. For over twenty years, he was able to carry out his passion for trucking while working as a supervisor for the United Parcel Service (UPS). Following retirement, he taught at the Tennessee Technology Center in Memphis, Tennessee for 8 years.

Joseph was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Clinton Kirk, Sr. and Elizabeth Kirk Washington; wife, Barbara Joyce McMoore Kirk; and daughter, Kimberly Yvette Kirk.

He leaves to cherish his memory; two sons, Dennis Andre Kirk and Clinton Michael Bowles (Vernice); five grandchildren, Denisecia La’Shea Kirk, Barbara Alexis Thompson, Clinton Bowles, Ronald Bowles, and Kendra Bowles; two brothers, Odell Nickerberry, Jr. and Jerome Washington; four sisters, JoAnn Jefferson, Jacqui Jones, Brenda Nickerberry, and Regina Washington; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins; and many friends.
