Obituary for Thelma Pope White

Mrs. White was a school teacher with the Memphis City Schools. She retired on June 11, 1994. Having served as a teacher of Chemistry and Biology, she also taught night school, summer school and also tutored.

Mrs. White was a member of the Memphis Education Association and the Retired Teachers Association. She was also an activist for more pay and benefits for the Memphis Teachers Association; protesting for more wages and benefits for all Memphis teachers.

Mrs. White attended Mississippi Industrial College, where she received her Bachelor's Degree in Education. She was a member of the Ladies Basketball team. She also attended Mississippi State University in Starkville, Mississippi.

In 1957 Thelma married Louis J. White, her husband for 56 years. Together they had one daughter, Tammy White-Dailey.

Thelma White was a member of Mt. Pisgah C.M.E. Church. She was a member of Usher Board #1, a member of the Higher Education Ministry and a Sunday School Teacher.

Her loving spirit and cherished memories will be survived by her daughter, Tammy White Dailey, one granddaughter, Chantel White, and two grandchildren; Eja White and London Smith.
